Press Release - April 2007
Sparkling support for Sheffield pensioner London, 10 April 2007 - AFTAID - Aid for the Aged in Distress - the charity that provides the elderly with vital financial support, has helped 72 year old pensioner Sheila Roberts maintain her independence by donating a brand new washing machine. Mrs Roberts, who worked for sweet company Bassett's for over 20 years turned to Sweet Charity for help when she risked flooding in her home due to a worn-out washing machine. Having lived with arthritis for many years, and on a basic pension, maintaining her house without a washing machine presented a serious challenge. "Each time I used the old machine I thought that I'd flood the house. It's just something I can't do without and I couldn't see how I would be able to afford a new one" commented Mrs Roberts. AFTAID supported Sweet Charity's response to Mrs Roberts's application by making a grant payable to the chosen washing machine retailer. Within ten days, the machine was installed and ready for use. Mrs Roberts adds: "I'm so pleased with the washing machine and relieved that I don't have to panic when it comes to doing my laundry." |
