Press Release - January 2007

AFTAID appoints Susan Elson
as new Chair of Trustees

London, UK - 29 January 2007 - AFTAID - Aid for the Aged in Distress - the charity that provides the elderly with vital financial support, has appointed Susan Elson as its new chair and welcomes two new trustees to its board, Brian Hudson, and Lynda Isaacs. Sue Elson replaces John Wheatley as the charity's chair and brings to the position experience in the voluntary sector.

Lewis Green of AFTAID commented, "While we regret John Wheatley's resignation as he brought great leadership skills and experience to the charity, we are delighted to have Sue on board as we refresh our image and look at new ways of both attracting more donors and identifying and reaching more people who are in need of AFTAID's assistance."

Lewis Green continued, "Sue starts in her role with great enthusiasm and I know that because of her experience and obvious skills she will continue to develop the charity's ability to help those in need."

Susan Elson is a solicitor with the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and has specialised in professional conduct for over 20 years. She also sits as a parking and traffic adjudicator and an immigration adjudicator. In addition, Susan Elson has worked with a number of charitable organisations and in advocacy roles. She comments:

"Financial hardship is a reality that an increasing number of elderly people have to face not being able to buy the essentials that most people would take for granted. I am truly looking forward to working with AFTAID as I believe that this charity can make a huge difference to the lives of those who fall through the social services 'safety net'."

The two new trustees are Major Brian Hudson and Lynda Isaacs. Brian Hudson is a long term serving officer who has now retired, and devotes much of his time to the management of military-orientated charities. Lynda Isaacs is an experienced health professional employed in the public sector, and specialises in care of the elderly.
