A cooling response for Marjorie sets her straight Active 72 year old who helps others gets some help from AFTAID London August 2010 - It means so much to Marjorie Hawkins that she felt she had to write to AFTAID to express her sincere thanks for the help and support the Charity had been able to offer her. This 72 year old, who suffers from arthritis, lives on her own and although she does not drive she keeps herself very active getting out and about as much as she can. She does some voluntary work, is attending courses to learn sign language and takes part in her local Fellowship Club. Whenever possible she likes to make the trip from her home in Sheppey to visit and help her 29 year old daughter in London who, like her mother, treasures her independence but unfortunately also has health problems. However to achieve all this Marjorie relies on public transport, the cost of which eats into her already limited income. So when her fridge freezer packed up she realised that replacing it was beyond her means and it would take her some time to save up the necessary money. She was concerned therefore as to how she would be able to keep her food fresh. Luckily she found out about AFTAID. As a result this active lady, who spends a lot of her time helping others, decided to ask for some help for herself. Having received all the necessary information the Trustees came to a decision very quickly and were delighted to be able to obtain the fridge for Marjorie.
